Summer Project 2011 (Update 1)

I am really glad I am here in Gatlinburg, TN for summer project.  I am so thankful for all the people that have supported me on my endeavor to reach people for Christ. This week has been rather busy.  I think the earliest I have gone to bed so far is 2 am.  People have been busy finding jobs and other pursuits.  The people here are great and I am really enjoying getting to know them so far and I hope that good conversations and deep thoughts continue.

The first night I got here I just unpacked and got to meet a lot of people.  That day was pretty uneventful.  Tuesday consisted of a devotional and the search for jobs.  I found my job fairly quickly. I will be working at an eating establishment known as Blain’s Grill.   Server is the position I will be filling.  I have never been a server before so it should be interesting and give me some work experience.  That evening we all had a scavenger hunt. On Wednesday,  all those working at Blain’s went to orientation.  It was very informative.  Later that evening we had a cookout at a pavilion.  A bear decided to pay us a visit for dinner. Apparently when you cook tasty meats around nature, bears venture in. Luckily, no one was hurt.  One of the guys, Roosevelt, got an excellent video of the bear encounter.  We went on a hike shortly afterward to an old homestead. Thursday consisted of Evangelism training and D-group.  Both of those were quite helpful.  The guys in my D-group are really phenomenal and they love Jesus. So all in all this week has been really busy.  Thanks for keeping me in your prayers.

In Christ,

Brian Fickley
